'What's in a name?' Culture and Identity through Storytelling - With Amna Burki

“What’s in a name?” Juliet asks Romeo, reflecting on the fact that names are just a convention, and that, the same thing with a different name would be no different. But is it true? And specifically, is it true about our Names? Or do the Names we are given and we choose for ourselves define who we are, the values and ideas of the people who chose our names for us… do they define our identity? Even before we were born, what’s the story behind our Names?

The stories we are made of and the stories we tell help us define our identity and give us a sense of belonging. At the same time, by the listening and the telling of stories of different cultures, we can get in touch and try to grasp and understand aspects and ideas that may be unfamiliar to us, and different to what we learnt growing up. How do stories shape us? How do we react to the names, titles and labels given to us?

In this workshop, I’m happy to be joined by the wonderful Amna Burki to delve into the realm of Identity and Culture with the help of stories. This is going to be a taster of an incredibly vast topic well worth exploring!

What's included? 1h30 live session + support on a small project and further links to resources
