What is it about, and who is it for?
Would you like to develop and work with your creativity? Would you like to have fun creating and playing with stories in a relaxed environment?
If you are a teacher who would like to experiment with new techniques to use with your students, if you are a storyteller who likes playing with stories or if you are a lover of stories - then this course might be what you are looking for! This is a hands-on story-making course in which we will create stories using a variety of techniques.
We will work together with motivated and creative participants, share and generate ideas, step out of our comfort zone, let our minds wonder and wander… we will create stories and enjoy doing it!
What will we learn and why?
Have you ever noticed that the more creative things you do, the easier it gets to be creative? Creativity is a skill, and as such it can be developed and honed - the more we practise, the easier it gets!
Creating stories is such a fun and interesting way to develop our creativity, which in turn can be applied to many aspects of our life – like developing critical thinking and problem solving; but it also gives us an opportunity to have fun, express ourselves, develop empathy – and, for teachers, it’s a great way to engage our students.
The story-making course is divided in two parts that work and can be taken independently from one another, since they focus on different aspects, techniques and story types.
In particular, in this part of the story-making course (part A), we’ll focus on these kinds of techniques and narratives:
- Folktales: changing, enriching and playing with existing stories or creating new ones linked to them
- Personal narratives: starting from personal experiences, learning to exaggerate and create tall stories, putting ourselves at the centre of the narrative
- Starting points / elements: learning to ask ourselves ‘what if’ questions and get the narrative going starting from a given point or element
