What is it about, and who is it for?
This is a course for anyone who is interested in learning how to apply oral storytelling in a language teaching context: language teachers, educators, storytellers who work with language learners, or even parents / home educators.
We will specifically focus on stories, techniques and activities to use with children, but that can easily be adapted to teach other age groups.
What will we learn and why?
Stories make language learning fun and engaging for our students. But not only! When learning a foreign language, stories provide a meaningful context to learn new words and structures, as well as one to see the language in action.
We’ll learn how to implement the use of stories, storytelling-related activities and techniques to make language practice more engaging, fun and meaningful for our learners.
In particular, we’ll focus on:
- the use of expressivity to engage our listeners;
- using chants, songs and repetitions to help memorise words and structures;
- the steps involved in preparing a story for a language lesson, as well as how to get ourselves and our listeners ready for the story;
- how to follow up on a story with story-related activities;
- how to create stories with our students;
- how to involve our students mentally and physically in the story to boost their learning.
When and for how long?
The course will take place on six consecutive Friday mornings (from 10th January to 14th February) from 9:00am to 11:00am Italian time, for a total of 12 hours of synchronous learning.
In addition to this, you can expect more or less the same amount of hours in asynchronous learning tasks, set by the course tutor.

“I absolutely loved the storytelling course! It was a fantastic experience filled with fun activities that really helped me grow as a teacher. The interactive sessions were so enjoyable, and getting feedback from my peers made it even more special. I walked away feeling inspired and excited to share my stories with my students. If you’re looking to enhance your storytelling skills and connect with your students on a deeper level, this course is a must-try! Thank you Simona for this life changing experience.”
“I am always looking for a powerful and fun way to engage my students whilst developing their overall skills. In the course “Will you tell us a story”, Simona, with her fun and loving personality, showered us with practical ideas to use in our classes. Not only did I learn how to use storytelling in my classes but also learned beautiful stories and met wonderful people from countries far away from mine 😊”
